Ivan Antonov, Associate Professor of Linguistics, his wife Martha, Professor of Composition at the Conservatoire, and their son Bozhidar send Granny away to the rooftop because they do not want her to be in the way when they receive an important guest. If the guest, Tikhov, a chef de cuisine working for a highly-placed person, enjoys the dinner, he may arrange for the whole family to get jobs abroad. Suddenly, with the dinner in full swing, the outline of a mammoth appears on one wall. According to Bozhidar, the cave-drawing-like shape of the huge Ice Age beast appears at the scenes of unresolved crimes. Little by little the mammoth’s shadow engulfs the building, the housing estate and then the whole city...
